These bloomin’ grilled apples are stuffed with maple cream caramel sauce and pecans. Cook on the grill and top with ice cream for a summer dessert!
Now that much of our cooking has moved from the oven in the kitchen to the grill outside the house, it is time for a summer version of the wildly popular Bloomin’ Baked Apples!
These Bloomin’ Grilled Apples are stuffed with maple cream caramel sauce. When topped with vanilla bean ice cream, warm maple pecan caramel sauce and chopped pecans, it is a dessert fit for summer evenings with friends.
How To Make Bloomin’ Grilled Apples
To make these Bloomin’ Grilled Apples, I used small Gala apples that only measured about 2 1/2 inches wide. You can use any variety of apple that is good for baking.
The amount of filling needed and the cooking time will vary depending on the kind of apple and the size. The bigger the apple, the more filling and cooking it will need.
Start by cutting the apples into a bloomin’ shape. Cut off the top fourth of the apples. Scoop out the core.
Use a thin knife to make a deep, circular cut around the center of the apple.
Turn the apple over and make narrow cuts all the way around the apple, leaving the bottom core.
Flip it back over and you can see all of the cuts.
Fill the center of the apples with maple cream caramel sauce (recipe for the sauce is here) and chopped pecans. I used about one tablespoon of maple cream caramel sauce and two teaspoons of chopped pecans for each apple.
Wrap the stuffed apples with heavy duty foil and grill over medium heat for 30 minutes, with the grill lid closed.
If you are “roughing it”, you could shape a foil bowl while unwrapping the dessert, and eat the bloomin’ grilled apples right out of it.
Otherwise, unwrap the maple pecan blooming grilled apple and use tongs to set it on a plate.
Top the bloomin’ grilled apple with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. Pour on some warm maple pecan sauce and sprinkle with chopped pecans.
These blooming grilled apples will make your summer nights even sweeter!
