Tonia’s Notes
My sister works at a restaurant, and she knows that I love chai tea. She recently mentioned to me that diners love ordering dirty chai lattes (a chai latte with espresso). I’d never heard of such a thing and asked her how she made it. She said that she mixes ready-made chai latte with whole milk and adds a shot of espresso. It is served over ice.
I wanted to try making one for myself, but I didn’t have a chai latte mix. So, I figured out how to make an iced chai latte for one using tea bags instead, and I’m excited to share my recipe with you!
How to Make an Iced Chai Latte
Step One: Make the Tea
Steep two chai tea bags in four ounces of hot water for about five minutes. I dispensed four ounces of hot water from my new Keurig 2.0, but you can heat water in the microwave if needed.
I used my favorite chai tea called Stash Chai Spice Black Tea.
Step Two: Make Espresso
If you have an espresso machine, make one shot of espresso.
Or if you don’t have an espresso machine, you can use a Keurig with these Cafe Bustelo espresso style k-cups. They make the closest thing to espresso in a Keurig. I brewed the smallest size I could which is four ounces.
Step Three: Mix
Put ice in a large cup. Then, add the brewed tea and two tablespoons of espresso. Finally, add whole milk and a sprinkle of sugar and stir.
An Iced Chai Latte is so cool and refreshing on a hot summer afternoon. I love the combination of chai tea and coffee!

NS says
“Chai tea” is not accurately used. It means “tea tea.” You can simply say Chai and espresso throughout the whole story. Chai is not a specific type of tea. It’s black tea and it depends on which brand has the right type of spices. I’ve noticed that Chai is typically marketed in the West with a more cinnamon and clove flavor (Chai in the Eastern part of the world is very different).
Nonetheless, this is a really good dirty chai recipe.
