One of my friends got a cute candy stick as part of a birthday gift, and it inspired me to make a Valentine’s Day version. You can make these sweet treats for any occasion!

What You Need To Make Candy Sticks
Ingredients Needed
For ingredients, you’ll need a combination of candies, marshmallows, and sprinkles.
- Lollipops: We love the look of swirled lollipops and ring pops for the candy stick toppers. So choose whatever colors work best for the holiday or occasion you are celebrating.
- Marshmallows: There are two kinds of marshmallows on these kabobs. The first is a plain marshmallow topped with sprinkles, and the second is a cupcake marshmallow at the bottom of the skewer.
- Gummy Candy: We added four kinds of gummy candies: butterflies, peach rings, cinnamon hearts, and sour belts. The options for gummy candies are endless, so you can get creative with the combinations.
- Gumballs: Colorful, shimmering gumballs look really pretty on the candy sticks. You can find them online or at party supply stores.
- Candy Wafers and Sprinkles: We used melted candy wafers to help keep the lollipops and ring pops in place, and we added sprinkles for color.
Supplies Needed
For supplies, you’ll need wooden skewers to put the candy on and a few other things to make it easier.
- Wooden Skewers: There are so many options for skewers, but the most important thing is that they are long enough and strong enough to hold all the candy you want to add.
- Rags: You’ll need a wet rag or two to clean the sticky residue off the sticks.
- Metal Pick: If you want to add gumballs to the kabobs, you’ll need a tool to poke holes in them. We found that a small metal pick used for nuts worked the best.
- Bags: Once the candy sticks are assembled, you can put them into cellophane bags or plastic wrap to keep them fresh.
- Ribbon: Finish the kabobs with colorful ribbons that look pretty and help the bag stay closed.
How To Make Candy Kabobs
To make candy kabobs, start by determining what candies you want on each skewer and in what order you want them to be. You will add the candy from bottom to top.
Slide the bottom candy (we used cupcake marshmallows) onto the skewer, leaving space at the bottom of the stick for a handle. Then, use the damp rag to clean off the marshmallow residue.
Once it is clean, you can continue sliding candies onto the skewer, ending with a marshmallow, but take a moment to cut the pointed tip off the end of the skewer before adding the marshmallow.
Dip the top of the marshmallow into the melted candy wafers and add sprinkles.
Then, insert the shortened lollipop stick or ring pop loops into the top of the marshmallow. Put the candy stick into a piece of styrofoam (or lay it on parchment paper) and allow the melted candy wafers to harden.
Storage
Slide the candy sticks into cellophane bags (or wrap them in plastic wrap) and secure them with colorful ribbons. Store the wrapped candy kabobs in a cool, dry spot. The fresher the candy is, the better it will taste, so these are best when enjoyed promptly.
Bonus tip: Since these are not suitable for young children, we slid the candies off the skewers and placed them in a bowl for our young nieces and nephews. Each child got to pick two candies from the bowl.

- 5 cupcake marshmallows
- 10 sour belts
- 5 gumballs
- 5 cinnamon hearts
- 5 peach rings
- 10 gummy butterflies
- 5 large marshmallows
- ¼ cup white candy wafers
- 2 tablespoon sprinkles
- 3 lollipops
- 2 ring pops
Instructions
- Slide a cupcake marshmallow onto each skewer and use a damp rag to clean the marshmallow residue off of the stick.
- Fold the sour belts into ribbons and slide them onto the skewers.
- Use a nut pick (or metal skewer) to poke holes in the gumballs. Slide the gumballs onto the wooden skewers.
- Slide the on the cinnamon hearts, peach rings, and butterflies. These gummy candies are easier to slide on if the wooden skewer is slightly damp.
- Cut the pointed tip off of the skewer and then add a large marshmallow to the top. Dip them in melted white candy wafers and add sprinkles.
- Trim the lollipop sticks and insert them into the top of the large marshmallow alongside the wooden skewer. Or insert the plastic ring of the ring pops.
- Allow the melted candy coating to harden before placing them into cellophane bags (or use plastic wrap). Secure with colorful ribbons.

How challenging is it to secure the ring pops to the marshmallow? Do they really stay put?

The hardened candy melts make them stick. They were way easier to insert than I thought they would be. At first I considered cutting off the ring part of the ring pops but then realized that they would be more secure with the ring inside the marshmallows (the ring gets coated with candy melts when you insert it). That being said they are top heavy. You can use thicker skewers but if you do it will be harder to slide gummy candies onto them.
