Ingredients Needed and Substitutions
If you can get your hands on just a couple of basic ingredients, then you can easily make these cute mini Easter eggs that your kids will love!
- Pretzels: We used pretzels rounds for our mini Easter eggs because we wanted these treats to have a nice ’round’ center.
- Melting Wafers: To create a pastel-colored coating for our pretzel rounds, we used a mixture of both colorful and plain white melting wafers.
- Cocoa Powder Mixture: To achieve a speckled look on your eggs, first mix together cocoa powder and water in a bowl, then flick it over the eggs with a small brush.
How To Make Mini Easter Eggs
To make mini Easter eggs, simply melt your candy wafers, coat your pretzel rounds, then speckle the eggs!
- Melting: First, put the white and colored melting wafers in a small bowl and microwave. Stir and continue warming in the microwave for short intervals until smooth.
- Dipping: Then, dip your pretzel rounds in the melted wafers, placing them on a sheet of parchment paper.
- Speckling: Now, mix your cocoa powder and water in a small bowl. Then use a small, clean paintbrush to speckle your mini eggs.
Variations of Mini Easter Eggs
Although this recipe is Easter-themed, you can make chocolate-dipped pretzels any time of the year. Here are some fun variations to try!
Chocolate
While the vanilla candy melts flavor is delicious, you could try using dark or milk chocolate instead of melting wafers for a classic cocoa flavor!
Sprinkles
If you’d like to add even more color, try adding sprinkles to your eggs! Simply choose whatever sprinkles you like, and add them right after dipping the pretzel rounds. This will make them adhere nicely to your mini Easter eggs.
Pretzels
Another option would be to try switching out the type of pretzels you use for different shapes and sizes! You could use pretzel twists, mini pretzels, or even pretzel rods.
How To Store Mini Easter Eggs
Store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks. Do not freeze or refrigerate to avoid condensation and staleness.
