A Grilled Macaroni and Cheese Sandwich is the ultimate comfort food! Serve these sandwiches with tomato soup as an easy family dinner recipe.
My son, with his endless love of macaroni and cheese, asked me to make grilled cheese sandwiches stuffed with mac and cheese…the result was pretty awesome. These grilled macaroni and cheese sandwiches are now on our list of carve-worthy, comfort foods we love!
First, whip up a bowl of macaroni and cheese. You can use the boxed kind or go the homemade route.
Slice some bread. I used Italian bread from the bakery.
Butter one side of each slice of bread while the skillet warms of medium heat.
Grease the skillet and then lay slices of bread with the buttered side down in the skillet. Top them with slices of cheddar cheese.
Add a mound of macaroni and cheese…about 1/4 cup fit on my sandwiches.
Add another slice of bread with the buttered side up.
Once the bread is golden, carefully flip the sandwiches over to grill the opposite side.
Since these sandwiches are all about cheese, lift a sandwich and sprinkle some shredded mozzarella onto the skillet.
Put the sandwich on top of the cheese and let it brown for a bit.
The cheesy goodness is beyond amazing!
These grilled mac and cheese sandwiches are the ultimate comfort food with triple the cheese! For a family dinner, try these Grilled Macaroni and Cheese Sandwiches with a cup of pizza soup.

This sounds delicious! I did want to mention that the crust-side of the bread on the bottom of the sandwich stack totally looks like overcooked salmon filets. I didn’t figure it out until I saw the other pictures. LOL

I used Annies but the recipe works with whatever kind of mac and cheese you make. Enjoy!
