No Bake Energy Bites with Nutella are an easy no bake breakfast or snack. Made with peanut butter, oatmeal, ground flaxseed, honey, coconut oil, and Nutella.
Disclosure: This post was brought to you by Ferrero U.S.A, Inc., the makers of Nutella® hazelnut spread. I received promotional consideration to write this post to support the Nutella 50th Anniversary. All opinions expressed are my own.
Breakfast is always a busy time, with everyone rushing to get out the door on time in the morning. I love easy breakfast ideas that are ready to eat.
I made these No Bake Energy Bites that can be quickly eaten with a piece of fruit and a glass of milk. They are made with peanut butter, oatmeal, ground flaxseed, honey, coconut oil and Nutella. Everyone in my family loves them!
Tonia’s Notes
I first learned of Nutella when I was in middle school. I had a neighborhood friend named Emily, whose mom was from Germany. Emily introduced me to Nutella.
She would put it on toast for breakfast, and I thought that was the coolest thing ever. Ever since then, I’ve been a fan of Nutella and have passed the love on to my kids.
How To Make Nutella Energy Bites
To make the No Bake Energy Bites, mix together rolled oats, crispy rice cereal (or shredded coconut), Nutella, peanut butter, ground flaxseed, honey, vanilla, coconut oil and mini chocolate chips.
The great thing about energy bites is that they are easily customizable depending on your family’s favorites. You can add shredded coconut instead of crispy rice cereal or dried fruit instead of mini chocolate chips.
Scoop the mixture into small balls. I used a tablespoon-sized cookie dough scoop. Place the balls on a piece of parchment paper.
Use your hands to roll them into tightly packed balls. Place the no bake energy bites in the fridge to set.
These No Bake Energy Bites are perfect for a quick breakfast when eaten with a piece of fruit and a glass of milk. They also make a great snack! I want to make another batch and try replacing the mini chocolate chips with chopped nuts.

These are so yummy! I had to add an extra 1/2 a cup of peanut butter just to get the ingredients to stick together.
Kay says
Could you sub. chia seeds for the ground flax seed? Chia seeds are higher in protein.
Tonia says
Yes, that would be a great substitute!

I love fool proof recipes like this that you can easily adapt to your own taste without screwing them up. I made these tonight, but instead of Nutella, I used 3/4 cup of Jif whipped maple brown sugar flavored peanut butter. I also added dried cherries in addition to the chocolate chips. I used quick oats and coconut instead of old fashioned oats and rice cereal. They came out amazing. My husband and I couldn’t stop eating them. I’m making another batch tomorrow…and possibly everyday from now on.
Valerie says
Tania, approximately how many calories are each one of these? They’re in my fridge setting right now and look amazing!!!
Tonia says
Hi Valerie,
Ohhh…and they smell amazing too, right? I didn’t calculate the calories but MyFitnessPal has an online program where you can enter all of the ingredients, the measurements and the number of servings you made: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/recipe/calculator Enjoy!

OMG, I just tried this out and it is delicious. I always crave for chocolate and now that I am trying to shed some fat, I need something to replace a Snickers.

Just a question. Do you know what font you used on the picture for this??

Just tried these, they’re so simple and delicious. Before I put them in the fridge I rolled them in a bit of the coconut, made them look quite fancy! Thanks for the recipe, nothing too complicated with a fabulous outcome x x

Hi, I just saw your recipe… I want to make this for my toddler (he’s 15 months) can I use instant oats for this or just rolled oats? Also, I’m not planning to use nutella and PB. (no artificial sweets for him now) what can I use instead? Your reply will be a great help! TIA. 🙂
Tonia says
Hi Coleen,
Yes, you can. They just won’t be as chewy…which would be great for him! 🙂 Enjoy!

I just made these and they are so good. They remind me of no bake cookies only healthier.
Carmela says
Is it necessary to keep it on the fridge? What about outside the fridge but in an airtight recipient? How long will it last? Thanks a lot!!!
Tonia says
We did not store ours in the fridge but in an airtight container in the cupboard. With three kids in the family, ours didn’t last long but I would think they would last about a week. Enjoy! ~Tonia

Just curious, is there something I could use in place of nutella? My son is violently allergic to hazelnut. These look so easy and so yummy though!
Tonia says
Hi Sara,
I would suggest replacing the Nutella with peanut butter. Enjoy!
~Tonia
Callie Robinson says
If you still want the chocolate flavor they make chocolate peanut butter. I hope that helps.
Jamie says
What could i use instead of the peanut butter?
Tonia says
You could try another nut butter like almond butter, cashew butter or sunflower seed butter. Or if you can’t use any nut butters, I would suggest trying to add more Nutella. Best of luck! ~Tonia
Nancy says
I hope you realize that Nutella is a nut butter, it´s made of chocolate and hazle nuts. If you are allergic to tree nuts, use peanuts and if you are allergic to peanuts use tree nuts. If you are allergic to both find another recipe. I´m allergic to tree nuts but not peanuts, so I´m pretty familiar with this topic.
Sum says
I am allergic to honey. Can I just eliminate it or replace with something?
Soooo excited to make these!
Thanks for sharing
Tonia says
The honey adds sweetness and helps hold the energy bites together. I would suggest adding agave nectar or maple syrup. Enjoy! ~Tonia
Cindy says
What could a substituted for the ground flaxseeds
Tonia says
Hi Cindy, I would suggest adding 1/2 cup of oats, crispy rice cereal, shredded coconut or chopped nuts in place of the ground flaxseed. Enjoy! ~Tonia
Crystal Reez says
What do you recommend substituting the coconut oil with for those that dislike it? Thanks.
Tonia says
Hi Crystal, I would suggest using a tablespoon of butter or an extra tablespoon of peanut butter. Enjoy! ~Tonia
