This Pancake Recipe with Bisquick makes light and airy pancakes that melt-in-your-mouth. It’s easy to whip up for a delicious breakfast any day of the week!
When I shared my homemade bisquick copycat recipe recently, I included a basic pancake recipe in the post. But I wanted to share the pancake recipe with bisquick that includes a bit of sugar and vanilla as well as the added step of whipping the eggs for fluffy pancakes.
Start by beating the eggs in a bowl for about three minutes until lighter in color and airy. This can be done by hand with a whisk or by using a mixer with the whisk attachment.
Add the milk and vanilla. Briefly whisk until combined.
Can buttermilk be used to make this pancake recipe with bisquick?
Yes, you can substitute the milk with an equal amount of buttermilk.
If you are looking for a diary-free option, substitute the milk with almond milk or whatever milk alternative you prefer.
Next, add the bisquick and brown sugar. Whisk until just combined.
Are these pancakes gluten-free?
They can be gluten-free pancakes if you use the gluten-free bisquick.
Finally, lightly whisk in the melted butter.
Would oil work instead of butter?
Yes, you can replace the melted butter with an equal amount of olive oil or vegetable oil.
Heat a skillet or griddle to medium heat. Lightly grease the pan with cooking spray, olive oil, or butter. Pour about 1/4 cup of pancake batter on the pan. Flip to brown both sides.
What can be added to the pancake batter?
One of the great things about pancakes is that you can customize them however you want. Here are a few suggestions:
- chocolate chips
- blueberries
- mashed bananas
- chopped nuts
Continue cooking the pancakes until the batter is gone.
Can the leftovers from the pancake recipe with bisquick be saved?
Yes, you can save the leftover pancakes and reheat them at a later time.
Store the pancakes in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer with pieces of parchment between pancakes to keep them from sticking together.
Warm the pancakes up in microwave or toaster.
How To Top A Pancake
There are so many ways to top a pancake! The classic topping is butter but both my husband and I grew up eating pancakes with peanut butter on top. Maybe it’s a midwest thing?
- butter
- peanut butter
- nutella
- cinnamon and sugar
- fruit (bananas, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)

Good use of bisquick sitting in my pantry, leftover from camping past summer. I was impressed by the rising and fluffiness however they were a little on dry side. Would be ideal with fresh or thawed mixed berries.

Hi Suzy,
Thank you for trying our recipe! If they are too dry, you can add a little more liquid to the batter. We love adding blueberries to the pancakes too!
Best,
Tonia

Just came upon your recipe and decided to give it a try. I will only use this recipe from now on! The best springy and fluffiest pancakes ever! I did have to use a tiny bit more Bisquick mix to compensate for the batter being runny, but these were PERFECT!

There’s never milk in the house when my niece and nephew want pancakes, could I use sour cream instead? About how much would I use instead of the milk?
Tonia Larson says
I’ve never tried that but since you can use buttermilk to make these pancakes, I’m guessing sour cream would give you a similar flavor. The main issue is that sour cream is much thicker. You would need to thin the sour cream with something to make the pancake batter spreadable. I would suggest trying 3/4 cup of sour cream and 1/4 cup of water to make a substitute for 1 cup of milk. If the mixture seems too thick, add more water. Just make sure it is only 1 cup of liquid in the end.

I used actual bisquick mix. Whenever I make pancakes with it, they’re always dry. But adding these ingredients made them moist and tasty!!! Thank you!
Donna says
I made these exactly to the recipe other than I do not use whole milk so I subbed out 2%. The flavor was spot on. They have just the right amount of sweetness for my taste. They were just a bit flat. Not a fluffy pancake. It likely was the 2% milk.

Made exactly to recipe. Did put about a 1/2 tsp of olive oil in small cast iron skillet. Crispy the edges as I rolled the skillet. There holes all in pancake . Just as you want.

This recipe is so good. Thanks for the recipe.

i tried to make these pancakes and I used real bisquick instead of her homeade recipe and my pancakes turned out awfully. They were so dense I ended up having to add more milk to make them even edible.
Tonia says
I’m sorry to hear that your pancakes didn’t turn out as you expected. Bisquick has a similar pancake recipe right on the box so I’m not sure what went wrong with your pancakes. As with any pancake recipe, you can add more or less milk to make thicker or thinner pancakes. If they were inedible, could the expiration date on the box be off?

Delicious fluffy pancakes, and easy to make to boot!
M says
This created a unbelievably dense pancake for me.

I’ve look at several recipes that are bit different from the original Bisquick recipe to find something that tastes a little different and actually fluffier. Yours are the best and I mean the best pancakes I’ve ever eaten. I made your Bisquick recipe to make your pancakes. Thank you for sharing.
Gail says
I was looking for a different type of pancake recipe that doesn’t use original Bisquick. Of the several I saw online, yours looks like the best. The others were all about the same with each other. Yours cook the best and taste the best. I made the homemade biscuit and use that. I think it’s the extra baking powder and the shortening that makes it taste better. Thank you for sharing the recipe
