Gifts in a jar are perfect for giving homemade Christmas gifts. This Peppermint Pampering Jar is filled with items like body butter, foot, and sugar scrub.
Giving homemade Christmas gifts is so affordable! This Christmas, I am giving gifts in a jar with a Peppermint Pampering theme. It is filled with homemade peppermint spa products and peppermint treats. If you want to make your own spa products, the recipes are below. If not, you can buy small-sized bottles of similar spa products to put in the jars. Or buy large bottles and divide them into small containers.
In This Post: Everything You Need To Make Peppermint Pampering Gifts In A Jar
I started with lots of these small containers from Family Dollar and spray-painted the lids red. Be sure to use spray paint that is specially formulated for plastics. I used Krylon Fusion For Plastic in Pepper Red Gloss to paint these lids. Don’t worry if you can’t find these exact containers. Try looking for small plastic containers in the bead aisle at a craft store or in the food storage aisle of a large retailer like Walmart or Target.
To make the peppermint body butter, I used one Net Wt 7.5 oz jar of Vaseline Cocoa Butter petroleum jelly, three 8 fl. oz bottles of Bath and Body Works Twisted Peppermint body lotion (bought them on sale) and two Net Wt. 4 oz jars of Studio 35 Vitamin E cream.
Put all of the ingredients into the mixer bowl and add drops of red food coloring, 5 teaspoons peppermint extract and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Whip everything together.
Fill up as many small containers as you need and put the rest into large containers. This recipe makes 48 oz of lotion. If you don’t need that much, cut the recipe in half.
Peppermint Body Butter
To make the peppermint sugar scrub, put 1/2 cup of fractionated coconut oil in a large bowl.
Add 1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar, 2-3 teaspoons peppermint extract, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 2 drops of red food coloring (if desired).
Mix everything until the color is evenly distributed.
Fill containers with the sugar scrub.
Peppermint Sugar Scrub
Next, I made some peppermint foot soak by mixing together 1 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup Epsom salt, 2 teaspoons peppermint extract and 2 drops of red food coloring. Use a whisk to mix well. The extract made the mix a little wet so I poured it onto a piece of parchment paper and let it dry for 1/2 an hour.
Put 2 tablespoons of peppermint foot soak into each container. When ready to use the foot soak, pour the entire contents of the small foot soak container into a basin of warm water.

Print, cut out and glue the labels onto the containers. You can print the FREE labels below.
Put a piece of candy cane washi tape across the top of the containers.
Here is everything I put into my peppermint pampering mason jar: Ghiradelli Mint Chocolate, a peppermint hot cocoa packet, a red manicure set, candy cane Chapstick, and peppermint candy. I used a Kerr one quart (32 oz) wide-mouth mason jar.
Carefully add everything to the jar so that it all fits.
Put a piece of candy cane-striped Washi tape around the lid and add a snowflake to the top. I bought a pack of these snowflakes in the dollar section at Target.
I am making a ton of these gifts in a jar to give away this Christmas! I’ve got a head start and now I just need to be sure to finish them!

Peppermint Pampering Printable Labels
To make the peppermint pampering labels, open the files you want and download the pdf to your computer. Each pdf is a full sheet of one kind of labels. Print the labels onto paper using your printer and cut out each label. Glue the labels to the containers. Or you can print the labels onto full sheet label sticker paper and cut each label out. Then, peel off the backing and attach the labels to the containers.

Where did you get the containers for the pedicure in a jar? I love love this idea!
Tonia says
They are Spare Parts brand plastic storage tubes from Hobby Lobby.
Alyssa Finch says
Can you tell me approximately how many of those little containers your recipe for the lotion and the scrub made? Trying to determine if I’d need to get double of everything. Thanks!
Tonia says
Hi Alyssa,
Do you have the same size containers as the ones I used? The number of containers will depend on the size of your containers. The lotion makes 48 ounces. My containers are 2.4 oz so that would be 20 containers. The scrub recipe makes 16 oz of scrub so that would be 6 1/2 containers. Best of luck!

sara says
I was wondering if the food coloring in the lotion stains when using?
Tonia says
It didn’t stain us, but you can leave it out if you are concerned and it will still be fabulous!
Ashleigh says
Hi there. How far in advance can I make these? Like now long are tbey good for?
Tonia says
I would suggest that you use them within a month. Enjoy! ~Tonia
Stephanie says
What’s the best brand to use for the coconut oil?
Tonia says
I use whatever brand I can find at the store I’m shopping at. Our local grocery store even sells it now, which is great! Have fun! ~Tonia
Elizabeth says
Is the peppermint and vanilla extract the kind you find at the grocery store or the essential oil kind?
Thanks, love the ideas!
Danielle says
Hi! Very cool idea… Just wondering how long the homemade stuff lasts? I want to do some of this ahead of time, but want it to still be good by the time I give it…

Hello! I can’t seem to find the round containers, and others one I found were too tall to fit! Do you think rectangular family chef ones will fit in the jar? Thanks!
Tonia says
I’ve never tried the rectangular ones. It would depend on how big they are and how wide the mouth of your jar is. Best of luck! ~Tonia
Joan says
I found them at the Dollar Store and on amazon.com
Pamela Holder says
Hey Tonia this is so great I have a a huge family and Christmas can get pretty expensive I was just wondering where you got the striped washing tape. Thanks!
Tonia says
Hi Pamela,
I bought the striped washi tape at Target, in the office supply department, a couple of years ago, but I don’t think they still sell this exact one. I did a quick search online and found a couple of choices.

I found some at Michael’s but my friend surprised me and bought some for me while she was at Walmart – and it was an exact match of what’s in the pictures here. 🙂
Amanda says
Hi Tonia! Is the coconut oil that you used the same that you would use for cooking, or is there a different kind? Thanks for sharing!!
Tonia says
Hi Amanda,
Yes it is the came coconut oil! Enjoy!
~Tonia
Emily says
How much on average does it take to make the jars, and the different jars too?
Michelle says
Hi Tonia! This is such a great idea! And I love peppermint! Just curious if you know how much it cost per jar?
Tonia says
Hi Michelle,
Thanks! Sorry! I really don’t. It would depend on the prices you pay for the items in the jar. I never buy anything from Bath n Body works unless it is on sale. The price of the vitamin E cream varies significantly depending on where you buy it. I found the manicure kit in the Target dollar section last Christmas so they were super cheap. You could also buy generic petroleum jelly to save more money. Have fun making them!

Hi I made the body scrub last night. I had to convert the cups as in the uk. I used the scrub last night. Lovely by the way didn’t need to moisturise. This morning the scrub is solid? Any ideas why or what I might have done wrong?
Hoping you can help. Jo
Tonia says
Hi Jo,
It is because the coconut oil solidified when it cooled just like it does in the jar of coconut oil. To soften it again, put some of the sugar scrub into your hand and your body heat will soften it. Or put the container in warm water and it will soften again. We usually just grab some while in the shower and when combined with the hot water, it works great. Another option would be to mix in a liquid oil such as almond oil or even olive oil.

Thanks for the lovely post! I always find it hard coming up with presents for my mother-in-law. I’m not sure why, as I am lucky to have a lovely one. She loves natural products like soap, lotion foot cream etc, this gift idea looks like a treat . 🙂
Chelsey says
How many does this make?
Tonia says
Hi Chelsey,
It depends on the size of the containers you are using.
Peppermint Body Butter makes 48 oz
Peppermint Sugar Scrub makes 16 oz
Peppermint Foot Soak makes enough for 2 tablespoons each in 10 containers.
Best of luck,
~Tonia

Hi Nichola,
I used Krylon Fusion for Plastics (a regular spray paint, made to stick to plastics). You can find it here: http://www.krylon.com/products/fusion-for-plastic/

Hi Tonia,
When you spray paint the lids, do you use a special craft spray or a normal spray?
Thank you 🙂
